Paul Dennison’s method Exercises in the office can be complemented with elements of educational kinesiology.Dr Paul Dennison, the author of this method, combines elements of various sciences, such as:applied or behavioural kinesiology, psychology, pedagogy, acupuncture, anatomy, physiology and neurology. This method includes simple exercises, the aim of which is to integrate the work of your mind with your body.To a large extent, movements performed by children in the first years of life are used here. The method can be successfully applied both in children and adults. The rules of Education Kinesiology include:systematic approach, alternate movements, crossing of the middle line of the body, daily drinking of large quantities of water (preferably 25 ml of water per every kilogram of body). The exercises are grouped due to their effect on the body’s system, and the following groups are distinguished: · activating exercises, · stretching exercises, · energising exercises, · relaxing exercises, · points related to thinking, earthing, space, balance. The main benefits speaking in favour of application of these techniques are:improvement of concentration, enhancement of short- and long-term memory, improvement of movement coordination, more efficient processes of thinking, reading, writing, understanding, listening and pronouncing. The main aim of Dennison’s method is to improve processes of brain integration in order to facilitate its better functioning. The integration occurs in three dimensions: · lateralisation (left and right hemispheres of brain), · concentration (brain stem and frontal lobe), · stability (limbic system and cerebral cortex). The exercises suggested by Dennison are simple and don’t take long to perform.Their beneficial impact can be priceless – not only at work, but after work as well.
