The important SAR
Nobody denies the fact that wireless phones emit radiation. However, opinions as to its detrimental influence on human body are divided. The results of thousands of studies conducted in order to explain this issue are not unequivocal. So far, we only know for certain that the use of mobile phones provides for a local increase of body temperature.According to the European norms, head temperature must not increase by more than 0.1ºC during the use of a phone (at maximum transmission rate).Such increase of temperature is completely unnoticeable for an average person. For determination of the amount of energy absorbed by bodies of mobile phone users, the international SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) is applied.SAR is measured in watts per 1 kg of body mass. In Europe, the maximum value of SAR, measured during a conversation on a mobile phone, cannot exceed 2 W/kg.It corresponds to more or less the same radiation dose, which is absorbed during a sunbath. For several years, the standards for calculation of SAR have been approved by producers of mobile phones and are included in descriptions of all phone models, but great differences are visible during comparison of SAR data for various phone models. The SAR data in case of various models differ from several hundredths of W per 1 kg to almost two W.Yet, the required norms are met in every case. The experts advise to choose phones with a low SAR value when planning a purchase of a mobile phone. Note: the SAR values are measured when the phone functions at maximum transmission rate.In practice, the strength of the signal transmitted by the antenna of the phone is considerably lower. |
