Only 10% of Poles have breakfast at work and only 4% have lunch. Such results are presented by the IPSOS study “Facts and Myths. The Nutrition and Health of Poles in the International Context”. It means that for one third of the day we eat nothing, and then we compensate for it in the late afternoon and evening.
In contrast, in Italy, France or Spain at lunchtime all employees go out for lunch. In Poland, it is not common – firstly, because we like eating at home, and secondly, due to financial reasons. Moreover, in many companies workers do not have a possibility to go out at lunchtime.
In fact, most of us don’t eat anything at home in the morning and we also don’t take any sandwiches with us to work. Some of us buy bread, buns or yoghurt on our way to work. However, many people start work with coffee or a cigarette.
We remember about eating at about 11 a.m. or even later. We eat what we have or we go to the company canteen or shop and buy anything, most often sweets. Then we have another cup of coffee or tea, of course with sugar, and another cigarette. After some time we have another sweet snack.
We come back home as hungry as wolves, but we don’t eat a proper dinner. We often choose something fast, which is not necessarily nutritious. Only in the evening do we have a real, hot meal, usually in front of the TV.
However, doctors warn us that such a habit of eating is the best way to become obese and to suffer from diabetes, circulatory system diseases, arterial hypertension or intestinal disorders.
